Guidelines

Follow these guidelines to help you determine the steel building for you..
If you have any questions please contact us!
1.) Some of you may already know what takes place during a construction project, but for the ones that are not familiar with construction, these guidelines may help! Determine the perimeter size and highest point of your new building. Estimate the number of windows, doors, and the sizes you desire, and possible locations where you would want these items. Of course take in consideration of access and placement for future use..  Visualize where to place your building, consideration of road frontage, driveway, power and phone install ect. By placing your building on level ground will curtail cost on foundation escavation, and concrete material! Take construction stakes and layout the perimeters of your  building on your property, measuring out the distance of the four most outer corners of the building. If any overhangs or facades are going to be involved, you might want to locate these as well, to get an overall view of the new structure. ( Important: if you have any indication of underground powerlines, septic tanks lines ,or phone or cable lines ect., will be near, or close to your new structure... Call these utility service companies, and let them know, they will mark these locations for you at no charge! Normally )

2.) Decide at first if your steel building will have indoor plumbing, electricity, drains, etc. If you do choose to include these things, a building permit with additional trade permits will be needed from the county the steel building will be located in. Permits can be obtained by you or your erecting contractor. Foundation drawings, with calculations and anchorbolt location drawings are essential. (Anchorbolt drawings are included with our buildings). Foundation calculations will need to be done by your local planning office. If your constructing a somewhat large building, you need to hire a foundation engineer, all calculations are based on your soil conditions, frost line depth, and other factors for supporting the structure, in the area you are placing your building.

3.) Zoning Rules (basically refers to size and appearance) of the structure, for the local area of the building. Ask for a copy of regulations from your county. These criterias will list set backs, or distances from property lines, fire zones, wetland areas, door configurations, height of building, color, lot size requirements, etc. Once these regulations are known, it will be much easier to accommodate your plans.

4.) When you have determined what type of building frame you prefer. Example: (multispan), has support poles every so many feet, inside of the structure. Therfore, cutting down the amount of steel used overhead, and can span unlimited distances. (Clearspan), reaches from outer wall to outer wall, with no supports), giving maximum room inside the building, but limited distances of aprox. 300 feet. Knowing what purpose your building will be used for will help decide which structure will be best suited.  Steel Buildings will accommodate any type of aesthetic appearance, glass, wood, stucco, brick, stone, ect., to blend with your surroundings.! . Will you construct the building yourself, or hire an experienced installer? Of course you can construct the building yourself with some construction background. For do-it-your-selfers, smaller size buildings are ideal for this, but lets say you have a deadline on a larger square foot building and need the task to go quickly, so of course hiring an experience erector would be appropriate.
(  Always Remember, Safety Comes First )

5.) Find out if equipment purchases or rentals are needed in constructing your steel building. ( Generally,If your building is going to be over 8 feet tall, you will need equipment to lift it.)

6.) Order your steel building at this time with the information you have gathered. A set of  pre-engineered standard drawings will arrive to you in a few days. Review the drawings and make any revisions to staking out your building location on your site.
( Very Important), always abide by the set back lines in your building code of regulations), you do not want to start over!  Now, while your building is going through the manufacturing process, and getting ready for delivery, you may want to take this time to prepare the foundation and concrete for the structure.
. Remove Trees, Roots, Etc.( If needed )
. Level Area, Prepare Plumbing Drains, & Slope Water run                    off away from Area
. Dig Footers for Foundation and Slabs (Refer to                                     Building & Zoning Codes For Your Local Area)
. Inspections for Footers & Slab Area
. Pour Concrete & Finish ( LTH Steel Buildings Inc, highly recommends using a concrete company that is seasoned in this type of work! Do to the fact that, anchor bolt locations and concrete leveling and curing technics, are very important for durability of your foundation.

7.) When your new steel building arrives on the shipping date, you, or your contractor will remove it from the shipping truck. all components are bundled. (Delivery trucks and freight carriers do not remove freight from their trucks.) Owner, erector, contractor, or builder would be fully responsible for removing shipment from truck. This is normal procedure in the business. This usually gives the erector time to get familiar with his inventory of components, and distribute them around the building layout for easy access.

8.) Now, it's just a matter of time before all the components of your building are assembled. After the building has been constructed, a local building inspector will check to make sure everything is secured properly, and in accordance with codes.
Congratulations!  You now are a proud owner of an investment that will serve your future needs and last you a lifetime!
